Here's the place to ask for that not to happen! (That's the low-sanity stunning attack known as "Mind Control" in the picture. The name is misleading.)

Dec. 19th, 2023 06:39 pmPhysically, the Fuelweaver is a somewhat larger than human reanimated skeleton wreathed in shadow with bright red magic reinforcing the bones, radiating out from a glowing core in his chest. The same red magic gives him three glowing eyes, two in his original eye sockets and one in a hole in the center of his forehead. He's mostly humanoid except for the skull, which resembles that of an ungulate and has large curled horns. It is not permanently attached and doesn't need to be for him to see or speak out of it; in melee combat he's quick to pull it off his neck and use it as a bludgeon. Upon close inspection, his bones are fossilised.
As a large portion of his power was drawn from the shadow-magic conduits of the Ancient Civilization in the Constant, that's been inaccessible since he arrived on the Serena Eterna, along with his ability to bring shadow constructs to life. He still has the ability to form simple shapes from summoned bones for offensive or defensive use, although they don't last long, and can use his shadowy aura to block blows. Some of his ability to transmute emotional distress into Nightmare Fuel and vice versa is intact (on an OOC opt-in basis), but it's no longer unnaturally terrifying to simply stand next to him.
He doesn't need to eat regular food but does consume Nightmare Fuel to sustain himself outside the Atrium and refuel his magic.

ACTIVE TIMES/PACE: Scattered and sporadic, but most consistently available late at night into the early morning Pacific time. I can boomerang but it's not my default.
BRACKETS/PROSE: I prefer prose but I'll do either. If the starter's in brackets I'll do brackets.
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: Warn for child abuse and dental or eye gore, and don't be a jerk about LGBTQ+ gender and sexuality OOCly (characters' IC views can be whatever, this is about what I'm willing to put up with out of character).

IN CHARACTER
PHYSICAL AFFECTION: I don't see why not
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: He will fight you if you pick a fight with him first or screw around with magic portals.
RELATIONSHIPS: ...I mean, if you really want to, shoot your shot I guess, but romance is pretty far from his mind. I'm not going to say it's impossible but it's unlikely and it's even less likely that he'd be the pursuing party. (I find it difficult to imagine species or gender having an effect one way or the other.)
PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: Psychic abilities aren't really distinct from magic in his canon. Using them on him is fine OOC and won't make him immediately flip out or anything IC.
He has an ability that the Don't Starve wiki seems to have decided is called 'Mind Control', but all it actually does in the game is stun you for a short time, and it only works on characters whose Sanity stat is currently low anyway, so it can be deflected by a sufficiently well-fortified positive attitude. It does not give him the power to brainwash other people or make them take any particular actions against their will, only to... paralyse them with some combination of fear/panic/mental overload/terrifying but short-lived shadowy hallucinations, I guess. It's also very visible from the outside because blobs of Nightmare Fuel bubble out of the person's head and the victims can move enough to clutch at their heads in distress. He can cast it on more than one person at a time though.
MAGICAL INFORMATION: Horrifying undead monstrosity. It takes an immense quantity of magical rigamarole just to get him animated and conscious in canon, using the heart of a monster made of pure shadow to restore life to his fossilized skeleton in a dark reflection of the game's basic resurrection ritual, performed at the core of the ancient civilization's nightmare-magic infrastructure after it's been coaxed into a state of heightened power. (Which he then does his best to undo so that nothing else can be drawn in through it, including killing everyone who put it like that to prevent them from turning it back on.) Whatever alterations were made to his form so that he could walk around in other settings without falling apart or deteriorating into a mindless beast must be pretty heavy-duty. He needs to consume Nightmare Fuel or comparable dark magical energy on a regular basis for sustenance, in the absence of the Atrium's power conduits. Also, he's a proficient magic-user himself, though with a fairly narrow area of expertise.
MEDICAL INFORMATION: He was never human; he was either an anthropomorphic goat/antelope/bovid or an anthropomorphic crustacean when he was alive (he looks like the former but the Ancients were predominantly the latter - maybe it was a multicultural civilization, or maybe that's not his original body, I don't know). Biology doesn't really have anything to do with how his body works anymore.
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: His entire civilization perished/got subsumed into an eldritch hivemind because of overuse of shadow magic, so he's a little touchy about eldritch magic and insufficiently secure portals. Also he considers death the merciful option compared to whatever They would eventually do to you and your world.
MAGNUS ARCHIVES FEAR ASSOCIATIONS: Dark, either Extinction or Desolation, End, minor Spiral (canon); Slaughter, Web, more Spiral (CRAU).
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: He will fight you if you pick a fight with him first or screw around with magic portals.

OUT OF CHARACTER
BACKTAGGING: If it weren't for backtags I'd never get any threading done. I'm willing to pick up even very old threads. I'm likely to be the one restarting very old threads, honestly. If it's more than a month old I'll probably want reassurance that you want to continue it, but I'm up for it.
THREADHOPPING: Sure, if it's not against the rules of the community.
FOURTHWALLING: Depends what you mean by this. If you mean telling him that he's a fictional character from a video game (which I've also heard called "canon-puncturing"), probably not but you could maybe talk me into it. Other interactions with the fourth wall or the conventions of DWRP are probably fine, but ask first so we're on the same page?
NOT INTERESTED IN: Smut, because I don't write it in general. Deep dives into his backstory, because that's the weakest part of his voice for me. Joining games requiring permanent humanization, permanent transformation into anything else, discarding his canon backstory entirely and AUing him into another setting, or total irreversible loss of his canon powers.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
VISUAL: Looks like a big possibly-demonic goat(?)-headed skeleton guy held together by magic.
AURAL: Deep, spooky voice. (The sounds used for his voice in-game sound like a rock gong or similar mixed with eerie whispering, to me.) I usually write his dialogue in bold to convey the unearthliness of his voice. I imagine he sounds a lot like the Beast from Over the Garden Wall. He also makes noises like rattling bones or tumbling rocks as he moves around.
OLFACTORY: Probably smells like rocks and Nightmare Fuel tbh
DEMEANOUR: Ominous and grave. Fatalistic. Polite and mostly civil even to people he's trying to kill. Generally very composed, but he has his limits.
